  • Third Annual MEDA Spring Fundraiser from 6:00pm until 8:00pm
    The Third Annual MEDA Spring Fundraiser, Saturday, May 19, at 6:00 p.m. the home of Mary and Ed L. This fundraiser is in support of EDGET (Ethiopians Driving Growth, Entrepreneur-ship and Trade) EDGET, which means progress in Amharic, will concentrate on integrating smallholder rice farmers and small-scale artisans into higher value markets through increased market linkages (including input, services, and final markets) and enhanced productivity. Program participants will benefit from commercial access to support services from local, sustainable providers with these services continuing to operate after the program ends. The event will include an Ethiopian meal, silent auction and short update about the EDGET program. The dinner main course is graciously being prepared by a local Ethiopian woman so it is important to have an accurate count for those planning to attend. RSVP no later than May 13 by email to indymeda@gmail.com or by using the signup sheet on the kiosk. A preliminary listing of silent auction items will be provided prior to the fundraiser.   • Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) from 12:00am until 12:00am
    Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) hosting will begin on Sunday evening, May 20, and will conclude this time on Sunday morning, June 3. Council has approved our hosting for two back-to-back weeks this rotation. Please sign up at the kiosk for the many tasks involved with this hosting. We will need a set-up crew for Sunday noon, May 20, and a tear-down crew for Sunday morning, June 3. Sign up today! Questions: See either Bob W. or Aaron W. of Mission and Service Committee.
  • HIV/AIDS Awareness Special Worship Service from 9:30am until 10:30am
    HIV/AIDS Awareness will be the theme of a special worship service at First Mennonite on Sunday, May 20. This service includes elaborate worship arts, a dramatic reading relating the suffering of Jesus to those living with HIV/AIDS, personal stories of orphans and persons living with HIV/AIDS, accompanied by power point photographic journeys. Participants will be invited to light candles as a symbol of prayer and hope for those who are affected by HIV/AIDS. Rene Shilosio, our Associate Pastor, will speak about global suffering and hope in the midst of HIV/AIDS. Rene spent two years doing HIV/AIDS work in Swaziland, Southern Africa, the country with the highest HIV/AIDS rate in the world.
  • Recognition of High School Graduates from 9:30am until 10:30am
    Recognition of high school graduates will be Sunday, May 20, during the worship service for Jackson C. and Martin F.
